PRABOWO SUBIANTO: DATA IN THE FIELD NEEDS TO BE PUT IN THE RIGHT POLICY TO REDUCE POVERTY
Harian Press.“There are 69 million people who are living in poverty line according
to Central Agency on Statistics or BPS” stated by Prabowo Subianto in a
discussion broadcasted by DIGDAYA TV through Facebook Channel.
While analyzing data, Prabowo mentions that BPS as government agency has created indicator and classified a person who is included in poverty category if he or she earns around Rp. 387,000 or equivalent to Rp. 12,000 per day, meanwhile nearly poor category is the one who earns Rp. 19,000 per day.
Let us say that the price of 1 kilogram of rice is estimated from Rp. 8,000 to Rp. 10,000. We can conclude that a half of the income of people who live in nearly poor category will be used to buy basic need; rice. Moreover, the ones who live in poverty line (Rp. 12,000 per day). This calculation is not including for spending the income on dish, electricity, renting house, and other needs” added Prabowo in a simple calculation.
“Poor people are the responsibility of the government because they have obligation to make citizen living in prosperity. My duty as opposition is to remind the government about this. If I make mistake in addressing this issue I hope the government provide scientific arguments” continued Prabowo.
Data of poverty indicator provided by BPS is measurement tool to determine how many people who live in poverty line. The fundamental idea addressed by Prabowo is that the poverty indicator created by BPS it is not parallel with the fact on the field.
Government needs to think seriously how to eradicate the poverty by firstly making the right indicators for poverty. By doing so, the policy made will be effectively implemented in the field. And at the end the right indicators will be correlated with the right policy.
Dear readers, do you agree with the idea of Prabowo Subianto?
